# Ads

Explore observed AI search ads, compare market activity, measure account performance, and manage campaigns where enabled.

Use **Ads** to research the ads appearing in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode answers and measure your own advertising. **Ad Library** brings observed ads into one place, **Market** shows competitive activity, and **Performance** reports results from your connected ChatGPT Ads account. Where enabled, **Owned Ads**, Playbooks, and Workflows let you act on that intelligence.

Ad Library and Market cover observed ChatGPT and Google AI Mode ads. Performance and Owned Ads use your connected ChatGPT Ads account. Contact your AirOps team about access to management and creation features.

## How to Configure

1. Select the **Brand Kit** you want to analyze and open **Insights → Ads**.
2. Open **Ad Library** to explore ads observed for your tracked prompts. This is the default Ads view.
3. Set the **Date** range and any relevant filters.
4. To measure your own account, follow [ChatGPT Ads Manager setup](/insights/analytics/settings/chatgpt-ads-manager.md), including attaching the integration to the Brand Kit, then open **Performance**.
5. If **Owned Ads** is enabled, use it to [manage campaigns, ad groups, and ads](/insights/ads/owned-ads.md).

## Ad Library

Ad Library includes ads from your brand, tracked competitors, and other advertisers observed in your tracked ChatGPT and Google AI Mode answers. You can investigate advertisers even when they are not in your competitor list.

### Browse, search, and group ads

Switch between **List** and **Gallery** views. Use the table to compare activity and the gallery to review creative images and copy. Click an ad in either view to open its details.

Search ad titles, body copy, advertiser names, and advertiser domains. In grouped views, search also matches the selected grouping, such as topic. Show, hide, and reorder columns in the list, or use **Sort by** to order the gallery.

| Control                                   | Use                                                                                                                                     |
| ----------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Platform** | Select ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, or both. |
| **Group by** | View individual ads, or group by platform, topic, advertiser, advertiser type, destination domain, or status in either List or Gallery. |
| **Topic**, **Prompt**, and **Prompt Tag** | Focus on the questions and topics where ads appeared. |
| **Advertiser** and **Advertiser type** | Compare your brand, tracked competitors, or other advertisers. |
| **Region** | Limit observations to the selected countries. |
| **Status** | Filter to **Active**, **Likely inactive**, or **Inactive**, based on when AirOps last observed the ad. |

Observed-ad status uses the last seen date. It does not confirm the advertiser's current campaign status.

### Ad details and metrics

Open an ad to review its platform, preview, advertiser, status, and destination URL. The same creative observed on different platforms has a separate entry for each platform. Open an associated answer to inspect the ad alongside the answer context. The detail view shows appearance frequency, total appearances, days active, and the number of prompts and topics where AirOps observed it. The prompt table includes topic, appearances, frequency, and first and last seen dates.

| Metric                     | Meaning                                                                                                                                               |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Appearance frequency** | The share of tracked answers in the selected date and filter scope that contain the ad. The denominator includes answers where the ad did not appear. |
| **Appearances** | In the ad detail view, the number of distinct collected answers containing the ad. |
| **First seen / Last seen** | The first and most recent observations recorded by AirOps across the ad's history. |
| **Days active** | Calendar days between the first and last observation, inclusive. This does not prove continuous delivery. |
| **Prompts / Topics** | Tracked prompts and topics where AirOps observed the ad. |

{% hint style="info" %}
Observed ad activity describes AirOps' answer collection. It does not reveal an advertiser's spend, full impression delivery, or chosen targeting. An empty result means AirOps has no matching observations; it does not establish that a brand is not advertising.
{% endhint %}

## Performance

Performance reports metrics from the ChatGPT Ads account connected to your Brand Kit. AirOps syncs your account structure and daily performance, including campaigns with no spend in the selected range.

### Account metrics

Six cards summarize the selected date range and show the change against the previous period:

| Metric          | Description                                              |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Spend**       | Total ad spend                                           |
| **Impressions** | Times your ads were shown |
| **Clicks** | Clicks on your ads |
| **CTR** | Clicks divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage |
| **CPC** | Average cost per click |
| **CPM** | Average cost per thousand impressions |

Use the metric selector to explore trends over time. Group the chart by **Country** or **Device** to compare segments as separate lines.

### Filters and ad details

Filter by **Campaign**, **Ad group**, or **Ad** to focus the dashboard on specific resources. The **Region** filter limits performance to the selected countries. Country and device breakdowns each cover one dimension at a time.

The campaign table follows your account hierarchy: expand a campaign to see its ad groups, then expand an ad group to see its ads. You can also group the table by campaign, ad group, or ad. Rows show impressions, clicks, spend, and CTR, including zero-activity rows.

Hover over an ad name for a creative preview, or open the ad to review its creative, status, performance, and trends. **Share of ad campaign spend** shows how much of the parent campaign's actual spend went to that ad during the selected range.

When **Owned Ads** is enabled, the campaign table moves to that tab. Performance continues to provide reporting and filters.

### Empty states

| Message                         | What it means                                                      |
| ------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Account not connected | Connect an account and attach it to the Brand Kit. |
| Data is syncing | The account has not completed its first sync. |
| No campaigns in this ad account | The sync completed, but the account has no campaigns to report on. |
| Campaigns have not served yet | Campaigns exist, but AirOps has no delivery metrics for them yet. |

## Market

Market summarizes the ads AirOps observes in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode answers for your tracked prompts. Use the date range and answer filters, such as topics, tags, personas, region, prompt type, and prompt intent, to focus the analysis.

**Ad Load %** is the share of tracked answers in the selected platform scope containing at least one ad. It appears as a card and a time series. Switch the chart between **Overall**, **Platform**, and **Topic**. The Topic view starts with five topics; use the topic picker to change them. Market metrics follow the selected platform scope.

**Paid Share of Voice by Competitor** compares each brand's presence in observed ads. For each brand, AirOps divides answers containing an ad from that brand by the total answers containing an ad from your brand or a defined competitor.

Where enabled, **Competitor ad landscape** plots ad creatives by days active and appearance frequency. Use it to compare how persistently and frequently AirOps observes different creatives.

## Examples

### Research an ad test

1. In **Ad Library**, filter to a topic you want to advertise against.
2. Group the table by advertiser to see who appears, then use **Gallery** to compare creative and copy.
3. Open an ad to review its destination and the prompts where it appeared.
4. Use those observations to write a brief in a [Playbook](/actions/playbooks/tools/ads.md). If creation tools are enabled, create paused ads for review before activation.

### Review account performance

1. Open **Performance** and select your date range.
2. Filter to a campaign or ad group, then compare spend, clicks, and CTR.
3. Open an ad to inspect its creative and share of campaign spend.
4. If management is enabled, make changes in [Owned Ads](/insights/ads/owned-ads.md).

### Query observed ads outside the dashboard

Use the [observed Ads MCP tools](/developers/tools.md#aeo-observed-ads--advertisers) or [Insights API](/developers/api.md#observed-ads) to retrieve observed creatives and activity without connecting a ChatGPT Ads account. For enabled workspaces, [Ads opportunity Campaigns](/campaigns/ads.md) can use competitor activity to propose opportunities, and [OpenAI Ads Workflow Steps](/actions/workflow-concepts/workflow-steps/openai-ads.md) can create or update ad resources.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.airops.com/insights/ads.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
