# Ads

Analyze OpenAI Ads performance and create or manage ad resources with enabled Playbook tools.

Use **OpenAI Ads** in Playbooks to inspect account performance, prepare campaign briefs, and recommend changes. Where write tools are enabled, a Playbook can also create and manage campaigns, ad groups, and ads.

{% hint style="info" %}
Creating, editing, activating, and archiving ads through Playbooks requires separate enablement. Access to performance reporting does not automatically include write tools. Contact your AirOps team about availability.
{% endhint %}

## How to Configure

1. Open the Playbook editor.
2. Type `/` in the Section where you want to work with ads.
3. Select **OpenAI Ads**.
4. Select or connect the required OpenAI Ads authentication. Use an API key from [ChatGPT Ads Manager](/insights/analytics/settings/chatgpt-ads-manager.md).
5. Specify the account or resources, date range, and metrics to analyze. For enabled write tools, describe the exact resources and settings to create or change.

## Capabilities

| Task                    | Supported behavior                                                                              |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Analyze performance** | Retrieve account, campaign, ad group, and ad-level insights. |
| **Manage campaigns** | Create, inspect, edit, and archive campaigns where write tools are enabled. |
| **Manage ad groups** | Create groups under a campaign, inspect or edit their settings, and archive them where enabled. |
| **Manage ads** | Upload creative images, create ads, and inspect, edit, or archive existing ads where enabled. |
| **Extend a campaign** | Add ad groups and ad variants to an existing campaign where enabled. |

### Review and activation

Playbook creation tools create campaigns, ad groups, and ads in a paused state. The activation flow asks you to review the exact resources, budget, targeting, and creative before choosing **Activate now** or **Keep paused**.

The archive flow identifies the exact resource and offers **Archive** or **Keep**. Review edits carefully: changes to existing active resources affect the connected ad account.

## Parameters

## Examples

### Compare performance

```
Use OpenAI Ads to compare campaign performance for the last 30 days.
Return spend, impressions, clicks, and CTR. Identify which ads merit a
creative review and explain the evidence for each recommendation.
```

### Create a paused campaign

For a workspace with write tools enabled:

```
Use our Brand Kit to draft two ChatGPT ad variants for our project-management
software. Create a campaign with a daily budget of 25 in the account currency,
a clicks objective, and United States targeting. Create an ad group with a
maximum bid of 0.06. Use the approved image and landing-page URL I provide.
Keep the campaign, ad group, and ads paused. Summarize the created resources
and their IDs so I can review them before activation.
```

For competitor research without an ad-account connection, use the [observed Ads MCP tools](/developers/tools.md#aeo-observed-ads--advertisers). These query the ads AirOps observes in tracked ChatGPT answers.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.airops.com/actions/playbooks/tools/ads.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
